California-based wireless LAN provider Meru has announced its acquisition of Identity Networks.
Completed yesterday (September 8th), the deal will enable Meru's business customers to grant employee and guest network access for those who wish to bring their own media devices into their premises.
Automatic notification systems that provide guests' access requirements through email or text message are offered by Identity and the system is said to be highly customisable.
This removes the necessity for IT personnel to provide login details, instead making it possible for administrative or reception staff to do so.
Kamal Anand, senior vice-president of product management for Meru, noted businesses have to provide secure network access for up to thousands of people a day, suggesting that this buyout will ease an inefficient process.
"The addition of Identity Networks to the Meru family of security products builds upon our already strong security offerings and provides another important component of overall network security," he remarked.
Identity has been based in Manchester since its foundation in 2006.
