Intel's Communication Rackmount Server Operation is expected to be incorporated into German firm Kontron Management later this month, following the announcement that an acquisition agreement was made between the two companies on Friday.
The financial details of the deal have yet to be disclosed, although it was revealed that Kontron is hoping the new division will boost its revenues by as much as $40 million (£22.7 million) in 2009, as it seeks to improve its standing in the world's telecommunications and embedded computing sector.
Intel - which is the world's largest semiconductor firm, employing well over 80,000 people - has been heavily involved in mergers and acquisitions in recent months.
At the end of September, its investment arm Intel Capital agreed to purchase a $20 million stake in Telligent Systems.
This followed an announcement that it had set a new company earnings record for the second quarter of 2008, generating $9.5 billion in revenue.
