Nobel Biocare has announced that it is to acquire BioCad Medical, a developer of computer-aided software for the design of prosthetics.
The Swiss dental technology firm will purchase 100 per cent of the Canadian concern for a total of 26 million (£21 million).
According to Noble Biocare, the advent of computer-aided design (Cad) in the world of prosthetics is cutting labour costs and time.
Domenico Scala, chief executive of the Swiss firm, said: "The steps announced today mark an important milestone and allow us to bring to our customers the leading optical scanner and computer aided software technology available today."
The deal will see Nobel Biocare acquire BioCad's facilities, trademarks, brand names, innovation pipe line and "strong" research and development network.
Yesterday, David Mitchell, spokesperson for analytical firm Ovum, stated that private equity investors are still keen to purchase technology firms.
Writing in IT Brief, he added that firms themselves should be on the lookout for bargains.
