IBM is set to acquire cross-platform virtualisation firm Transitive, it has been revealed.
According to the purchasing firm, the company - which has a research and development team in Manchester - will allow customers to consolidate their Linux-based applications on to IBM systems.
The acquisition is part of an on going strategy to help IBM's clients optimise the efficiency of their computing infrastructure.
"With this translation technology, along with existing migration capabilities, IBM systems give businesses a faster, easier path for server consolidation," a spokesperson for the firm said.
Financial details of the transaction have not been revealed.
Last week it was revealed that UK internet and email security firm Marshal is set to merge with US web filtering business 8e6.
According to the firms, the new company Marshal8e6 will be the only independent software firm capable of securing all internet-based communications.
The deal will create an entity with 20,000 customers and a combined revenue of $50 million (£3 million).
