Climate Change Capital Private Equity is to invest 10 million £8.3 million) in German telecoms firm Power Plus Communications, it has been revealed.
The company specialises in using broadband technology to develop what it calls smart grid solutions.
Such technology focuses on using power lines in order to deliver internet access as well as electricity and has applications in metering for utilities firms.
According to Bruno Derungs, partner at the private equity firm, this is an area set for growth.
He said: "In the near future we will see a transformation of the passive power grid into an actively managed network where broadband power line communication will play an important role."
Power Plus's system could allow utility firms to provide customers with real-time information about their energy consumption, he added.
The Climate Change group was very impressed by the performance and quality of the German firm's product, Mr Derungs stated.
Recently, Quantance, a fables semiconductor firm, raised $12 million (£8 million) in backing, something which it said bucked current market trends.
