Nokia has completed its takeover of mobile phone operating system provider Symbian, it has been revealed.
The deal went through after all conditions relating to it were met and Nokia received valid acceptance of greater than 99.9 per cent of the outstanding shares.
Following the acquisition, the Finnish mobile phone firm will press ahead with plans for the Symbian Foundation.
The scheme, announced on June 24th 2008 is backed by a number of companies and aims to place the Symbian OS as the leading open platform for mobile communications innovation.
Lee Williams, executive director of the foundation, said: "The broad support we have received has confirmed that our vision, announced back in June, is shared
by many organisations both within and beyond the mobile industry."
The group will now press ahead with its plans, he added.
Other members of the foundation include AT&T, Motorola, NTT DOCOMO, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, ST-NXP Wireless, Texas Instruments, Vodaphone and LG Electronics.
