Lenovo, the fourth largest computer manufacturer in the world, has confirmed that it is looking at possible acquisitions.
A statement issued by the firm indicated that the company is looking at its choices as regards possible takeovers and investments.
"The directors wish to emphasize that the company does look at different business investment opportunities from time to time," the firm said.
However, it emphasised that it is yet to enter into any firm negotiations and nor have any agreements pertaining to acquisitions been reached.
Shares in the firm increased by 27 per cent on Wednesday, the day before the statement was issued, amid rumours that Lenovo was considering a takeover deal of some kind.
In a separate development, a study conducted by analyst Frost and Sullivan predicted that there will be a spate of merger and acquisition activity among IT firms located in emerging markets.
According to the firm, successful businesses in these regions will be keen to expand their portfolios.
