Research in Motion (RIM) has completed the acquisition of mobile content deployment firm Chalk Media.

The takeover was approved by Chalk Media shareholders in a meeting last Tuesday (January 27th) - the move was approved the next day by the supreme court of British Columbia.

As a result, Chalk Media becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of RIM, which manufactures BlackBerry smartphones.

The firm will also apply to have its shares delisted from the TSX Venture Exchange.

Founded in 2006 and with offices in the US and Canada, Chalk has developed a mobile content deployment system - Mobile chalkboard - which enables content to be created and integrated onto the BlackBerry platform.

A hostile takeover approach from RIM for encryption specialists Certicom last month stalled after the Canadian court blocked the move.

The firm was instead snapped-up by infrastructure company VeriSign in a deal worth $73 million (£53 million).
