The value of a planned IT overhaul at the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) could be as high as £800 million.
Previous estimates put the costs as between £300 to £500 million, but it could be worth substantially more, according to a tender release from SOCA.
The integrated IT infrastructure will be accessible to the Home Office, including the UK Border Agency, the Identity and Passport Service, the Criminal Records Bureau, the National Police Improvement Agency, UK police authorities and their successors.
SOCA plans to award the contract next year and will expect completion of the new IT service by the following year.
The expected total duration of the contract is ten years - the maximum number of tenders who will be invited to bid is five.
Operationally independent from the Home Office, SOCA is an intelligence-led agency which tackles serious crime, including drugs and people trafficking.
