Texas Instruments (TI) has announced the acquisition of CICLON Semiconductor Device Corporation, for an undisclosed fee.

CICLON manufactures high-frequency, high-efficiency power management semiconductors - TI says the acquisition broadens the firm's capability of delivering energy efficiency within its product range.

According to TI, designers who utilise CICLON technology can double a power system's operating frequency and achieve greater than 90 per cent power efficiency in a footprint up to 20 per cent smaller than today's power supply.

Steve Anderson, senior vice-president for TI's Power Management business unit, says the deal "opens doors" for the company.

"Combining CICLON's technology and expertise with TI's industry-leading power management semiconductor portfolio gives us a tremendous advantage when solving customers' complex power design requirements," Mr Anderson comments.

TI is a semiconductor specialist, aiming at greater performance, increased power efficiency, higher precision, more mobility and better quality for its telecom, industrial and computing clients.
