Trident Microsystems is to buy up assets from Micronas Semiconductor Holding, it has emerged.
As part of the deal, Trident will acquire three consumer products lines from the Swiss semiconductors firm - Micronas' FRC line of frame rate converters, the DRX line of demodulators and all of Micronas' audio processing products.
To seal the purchase, Trident is to issue seven million common shares to Micronas, valued at approximately $10 million (£6.8 million), meaning Micronas will hold a ten per cent stake in Trident.
Following the close of the transaction, Trident expands its presence in the EU and will have new design centres in Munich and Freiburg, Germany, as well as Nijmegen in the Netherlands, and expects to establish its European headquarters in Munich.
"Trident's purchase of best-in-class products, technology and intellectual property from Micronas' consumer division will immediately expand its reach into the home consumer semiconductor market," said Wolfgang Kalsbach, chief executive officer of Micronas.
Established in 1987, Trident manufactures system-on-chip services for consumer electronics and AV multimedia PCs.
