UK-based semiconductor firm CSR has announced that it has completed a merger with American GPS chip manufacturer SiRF Technology Holdings.
The merger has created a pure-play provider of connectivity and location platforms with the scale and technology to address emerging opportunities in mobile markets.
Kanwar Chadha, co-founder of SiRF and newly-appointed board member at CSR, said the merger will give customers and consumers the benefits of a stronger firm.
"CSR and SiRF have a shared vision of using innovation to bring the benefits of wireless connectivity and location to mainstream consumers and enterprises and to enable new and exciting user experiences," he added.
The enlarged CSR group will have its global headquarters in Cambridge and enters the list of the world's top 10 fabless semiconductor companies.
CSR recently launched a software development kit aimed at allowing manufacturers to reduce the time needed to develop stereo Bluetooth headsets.
