Bristol-based wind energy firm Garrad Hassan has announced that it is to merge with Germanischer Lloyd (GL), forming a fully-integrated technical assurance company for renewable energy.
The merger will create a firm that dispense consulting, design, certification and software services to the marine, solar, wind and other renewable energies industry.
Andrew Garrad, chief executive officer of Garrad Hassan, said the merger will provide an even more comprehensive service with access to more engineers, allowing the company to enter emerging markets.
"We have considered many potential partners but we have chosen GL because we share the same values of independence and technical rigour," he commented.
"Both companies have worked for 25 years together and hence know that this combination will be successful."
Last month Garrad Hassan published the Generation Options for Scotland report, which was commissioned by several environmental charities and indicated that Scotland can reach and even surpass its renewable energy targets for 2011 and 2020.
