Semiconductor manufacturer Intersil Corporation has announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire integrated circuit (IC) designer Quellan.
Although terms of the deal were not disclosed, Intersil is expected to benefit from the California-based firm's expertise in driving high-speed signals over long distances, complementing its video and DSL businesses.
Quellan's ICs are embedded inside active copper interconnects, dramatically improving the signal integrity, speed and density of existing platforms and providing up to three times the signal reach of traditional passive cables.
Tony Stelliga, chairman and chief executive officer of Quellan, said the firm is "very excited" about the merger deal.
"Quellan's products are immediately applicable in many of Intersil's existing vertical markets, and we believe will create opportunities in new areas of the analogue IC market," he commented.
Intersil will host a presentation at the upcoming Annual Pacific Crest Technology Forum in Vail, Colorado on August 10th.
