Deutsche Telekom AG, owner of the T-Mobile brand, and France Telecom, which owns Orange, are planning to merge their UK operations to form the UK's largest mobile phone provider, it has been suggested.
While both firms have declined to comment on the matter so far, sources close to the deal said they are hoping to announce as early as tomorrow (September 8th) that they are in exclusive talks to form a joint venture.
If the deal goes ahead, it will result in a telecoms giant with approximately 30 million customers and 38 per cent of the UK mobile market, while Dow Jones reports that the sources believe the companies will run the joint venture independently.
France Telecom recently announced its acquisition of 100 per cent of Unanimis, the UK's largest exclusive digital advertising network, which is expected to give the combined companies a strong foothold in of the fastest-growing advertising segments in the country.
