BroadSoft, a worldwide provider of VoIP application software for the telecoms industry, has announced its intent to acquire California-based software-as-a-service firm Packet Island.
It is hoped that the acquisition will address BroadSoft's need to ensure quality of service and quality of experience for real-time communications, while also using Packet Island's Deep Packet Inspection technology to allow service providers to deploy cost-effective VoIP and video services.
Following the acquisition, all employees of Packet Island will be retained and the company's founder and chief executive officer Praveen Kumar will become chief technologist of BroadSoft.
"This merger will broaden BroadSoft's range of cloud-based communications offerings, provide revenue growth opportunities and create long-term value for our service provider customers," commented Michael Tessler, president and chief executive officer of BroadSoft.
The firm was recently selected to deliver new broadband telephony and IP centrex services for CYTA, a leading provider of integrated electronic communications services in Cyprus.
