High-end semiconductor supplier Semtech has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Sierra Monolithics, a supplier of integrated circuit (IC) solutions for optical communications.
The transaction, which is valued at $180 million (£108 million) in cash, is expected to be accretive to Semtech's GAAP earnings per share within twelve months of its closing.
With the acquisition of Sierra Monolithics, Semtech hopes to add an additional, high-growth revenue stream to its portfolio and plans to create a range of wireless capability for industrial and high-end applications.
"Sierra Monolithics has the benefit of over 20 years of innovation, design and commercialisation of high performance analogue ICs and solutions and brings to Semtech a world-class engineering team," commented Mohan Maheswaran, president and chief executive officer of Semtech.
Semtech recently the SX8650, an ultra-low power four-wire resistive touchscreen controller with enhanced 15kV electrostatic discharge protection for applications such as mobile phones, digital cameras and MP3 players.
