UK-based Synchronica, an international provider of mobile messaging services, has struck a deal to acquire Norwegian firm Colibria's IMPS instant messaging (IM) business, reseller agreements and worldwide mobile operator customer base.
Under the terms of the agreement, Synchronica will continue to develop and support Colibria's IM technology as a standalone product, while also integrating the software into its Mobile Gateway messaging suite.
Carsten Brinkschulte, chief executive officer of Synchronica, said that the transfer of 46 Colibria employees should reassure the firm's customers that support will be ongoing after the deal.
"Our acquisition of Colibria's instant messaging business will allow Synchronica to offer a comprehensive range of next-generation messaging products to service providers, improving our competitive positioning and accelerating our commercial growth," he added.
In February, Synchronica introduced Mobile Gateway 5, combining mobile IM with web feeds and social networking services into a mass-market solution designed to run on almost any available handset.
