Computer chip giant Intel is considering a number of acquisitions in the near future in a bid to get its processes into more mobile handsets and other consumer electronics, it has been revealed.
Speaking to Bloomberg, Intel's chief financial officer Stacy Smith said that the company is seeking to accelerate its progress in these markets, including chips for televisions and smartphones.
While he did not name any potential targets or say how much Intel plans to spend on acquisitions in the near future, Mr Smith commented: "As we see other opportunities like that, we think it's a place where we can and will deploy capital."
The Santa Clara-based company ended the first quarter of 2010 with $16.3 billion (£10.6 billion) in cash.
Last year, Intel acquired Wind River Systems for approximately $884 million (£575 million), as part of the company's ongoing strategy to expand its presence outside the traditional PC and server market segments.
