PC giant IBM has acquired Cast Iron Systems, a software-as-a-service and cloud integration company based in Mountain View, California, for an undisclosed sum.
It is believed that the merger will help to expand IBM's business process and integration software portfolio in the sphere of cloud computing, which grew by more than 20 per cent in the first quarter of this year.
Cast Iron Systems, whose clients include Allianz, Dow Jones, Time Warner and Westmont University, has assisted thousands of cloud integrations and IBM also hopes to advance its capabilities for a hybrid cloud model as a result of the acquisition.
"The combination of IBM and Cast Iron Systems will make it easy for clients to integrate business applications, no matter where those applications reside," commented Craig Hayman, general manager of IBM WebSphere.
It follows IBM's acquisition of Initiate Systems, a provider of data integrity and data management technologies, in March.
