A merger deal worth some $870 million (£578 million) has been agreed between two of Indonesia's biggest telecoms firms, it has been reported.
PT Telkom Indonesia is to merge with Bakrie Telecom to offer mobile services using code division multiple access (CDMA) technology to a total of 26 million subscribers, according to Global Telecoms Business.
Under the terms of the deal, PT Telkom is expected enjoy a reduction in costs for the development of CDMA, which currently stands at around $200 million (£135 million).
PT Telkom Indonesia is currently the largest supplier of telecommunications in the country with a customer base of over 100 million subscribers.
By the end of 2009, its customer base had grown 21.2 per cent to 105.1 million customers. It has 8.4 million fixed wireline telephone subscribers, 15.1 million fixed wireless telephone subscribers and 81.6 million mobile telephone subscribers, according to statistics released by the firm.
