Information technology giant Hewlett Packard (HP) has today said it will acquire Fortify Software, a California-based software security firm.
As a result of the deal, the financial details of which were not disclosed, HP will add security assurance software to its product range, providing customers with a market-leading solution that will help reduce risk, meet compliance regulations and protect against malicious application attacks.
HP said that after completion of the deal Fortify will operate as a standalone, albeit initially, in order that continuity can be assured when moving into the security market.
Over time Fortify will form part of HP's software and solutions business, with its products merging into the firm's business technology optimization application product range.
Bill Veghte, executive vice president for HP's software and solutions arm, welcomed the acquisition.
"With Fortify's leadership in static application security analysis combined with HP's expertise in dynamic application security analysis, organizations will have a best-in-class solution to improve the security of their applications and services," he said.
HP was recently embarrassed after its president and chief executive officer, Mark Hurd, resigned after a sexual harassment investigation.
