Search giant Google has acquired Israeli start up Quiksee, a video mapping firm.
Media reports have been circulating for days prior to the announcement.
According to TheMarker, a financial daily, the acquisition is worth $10 million dollars (£6 million). Reuters reported that a spokesperson for Google said it was a small deal.
Quiksee said on its website: "We are delighted to announce that Quiksee has been acquired by Google.
"We've learned a lot from our previous work at Quiksee, and we look forward to bringing our experience, creativity and insight to Google. Both Google and Quiksee share the same innovative vision."
However, the firm said it couldn't divulge any possible product plans between the two companies.
It is thought Google will utilise some of Quiksee's technology to complement its Street View tool, as used by Google Maps and Google Earth.
According to blogginstocks.com, for example, this might see local traders filming the insides of their businesses to provide virtual tours – Quiksee's technology enables people to make location-based videos.
