Finnish telecoms firm DNA has extended its existing agreement with Ericsson to expand its 3G provision and launch a 4G network.

The three-year deal will see DNA expand its 3G/HSPA Evolution (21/42Mbps) services nationwide and roll out 4G services in Finland's major cities to speed up data traffic in busy areas.

DNA wants to launch 4G commercially this year.

The deal also includes network management products, radio access, and network rollout as well as consultancy and educational services.

Consumers are increasingly wanting faster web page access, to transfer files quicker and play games smoother on their mobiles, and the launch of 4G will enable them to enjoy faster speeds, DNA said.

Tommy Olenius, DNA's vice president of technology, said: "By continuing our strategic partnership with Ericsson, DNA will be able to further improve the mobile broadband end-user experience and quality of service."

Earlier this month, DNA announced it would merge the recently-acquired Welho unit with its core company. The firm acquired Welho from Nordic media Group Sanoma in 2009, where it operated as an independent part of DNA.

The firm said it expected 40 staff to lose their jobs as a result of the process.ADNFCR-1833-ID-800335856-ADNFCR
