O2 will team up with next-generation IT provider 2e2 to create O2 Unify, an IT outsourcing platform allowing firms to direct all their IT needs to one single provider.
The firms said O2 Unify, which will launch on April 2nd, targets the £7 billion ICT market and could help firms drive efficiency savings of up to 30 per cent.
Alongside fixed, mobile, voice and data solutions, the outsourcing channel will also offer managed WAN and cloud data services.
Unify will be based in Slough and will employ more than 500 people.
"Today's announcement shows the desire of O2 to accelerate the 'Joined Up' strategy that was announced at the end of 2009, and take a far greater share of the ICT market," Ben Bowd, business director at O2, said.
"As the worlds of data and voice continue to converge, O2 Unify will see us move from managing simple data and broadband connections to overseeing complex business applications and communications infrastructures," Mr Bowd added.
"It's a big and exciting move and the natural next step for O2."
According to O2, of the 50 per cent of businesses who switched suppliers in the twelve months up to the end of September 2009, 76 per cent made a saving by doing so.
