Cloud-based software maker Salesforce.com is aiming to boost its understanding of social media trends with the acquisition of tracking software company Radian6.
The $326 million (£202 million) deal will see Salesforce.com able to provide clients with software to track customer trends on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
Products from Radian6 will allow Salesforce.com to integrate social networking feeds into its own social media site for workspaces, Chatter.
Marc Benioff, chief executive at Salesforce.com, said: "We really believe the explosive growth of social media is just beginning and the ability to bring that deeply into our application and platform will be a critical next step
Salesforce.com has recently been on the acquisition trail, picking up several companies since last year in a bid to help it compete with larger competitors such as Dell and IBM.
Chatter went live in January 2011. It allows companies to create a free and private social networking site to enable employees to communicate with one another.
